Teaching Methods
How We Teach
There are many directions you can take your piano lessons with us. The two most common are pursuing the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) program, the Conservatory Canada program, and deciding to pursue your own musical interests.
You do not need to choose one - teachers can often blend the two interests in lessons. Both of these options require a solid foundation in being able to read music, understand basic music theory, and play a variety of pieces that encourage correct technique and dexterity at the piano. |
Foundation in Piano
To promote a solid foundation with our beginner students, our teachers often opt to use the Piano Adventures curriculum, developed by Nancy and Randall Faber. There are multiple tracks depending on age and experience. However, each teacher is unique and has their own approach |
Young Beginners |
Young beginners ages 4+ can use My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner.
|
School-Aged Beginners |
Beginners who are ages 7-9 can use the Piano Adventures series.
|
Older Beginners |
The Fabers have an Accelerated Piano Adventures for the Older Beginner available for any students ages 10+ who wish to begin learning piano, and Adult Piano Adventures for adult learners.
|
After this foundation, students can either choose to pursue solely RCM material, RCM plus popular/contemporary, or solely contemporary music. If at any time you decide you want to switch the focus of your lessons, please let us know and we can work with you to make the change.
