Sylvia has her Grade 10 piano with first class honours from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology both awarded by the University of Saskatchewan with great distinction. She has also been the recipient of the RCM Silver Medal (now known as the gold medal) for achieving the highest mark in the province on her Grade 9 piano exam. Sylvia has performed at numerous events such as church functions, school gatherings, recitals, and music festivals.
Sylvia is a classically trained pianist and is very passionate about teaching piano. She wants to help form diligent, committed students that are as enthusiastic about classical piano as much as she is. Students studying with Sylvia can expect strong encouragement to strive for continuous improvement. Her students have placed first and second in music festivals. Her students also consistently obtain high marks on their RCM piano examinations. Some of her students have also been awarded the RCM gold medal for achieving the highest mark in the province.
Sylvia loves to ask students how their day was, and what is new in their life! She uses games for beginners and will ask for their suggestions and thoughts on what the story behind the pieces are, or what imagery the pieces have. She likes to try and be creative in lessons and can tailor her lessons for a more rigorous exam-centered approach, or a more relaxed, fun approach!
